Neal's Story

We invited Neal to share his story with you in his own words...

"My name is Neal. I am 54 years old and have always been able to support myself. I had sole custody and raised a set of twins, a boy and a girl, and have never been homeless until about 5 months ago. I had a series of knee and ankle injuries which got me behind on my rent and was evicted from my home. I even lost my job because I was honest and told them I was homelesss and the next thing I knew I was listed as on call and they never called.

One day I was trying to subsidize an income by collecting aluminum cans and I went to the 4th floor of the Metrolink parking structure and when I came out of the elevator there was the Covina Police Department and a member of Support Solutions. Because of the fact that I do not do drugs I was asked to enter their program. They offered me job leads, helped me make my resume which is up to 7 pages long. Got me the shoes and pants I needed when I did find a job, offered me interview practice and a chance to get my forklift license. I was allowed to use their office address so I could get my paychecks because at the time I did not have a home. Because of Support Solutions I am not homeless anymore and I have a job, and because of them my life has and will continue to get better."

Neal, you are an inspiration to us all. We are overjoyed that you are housed and employed during these rainy winter months, and we appreciate you sharing your story with us.
